Steve Moody makes groups political stance clear regarding forth coming by-election In Cllr Broadhead's Ward of Branksome &Talbot Woods

Posted by BCP Dorset Motorists on Aug 10, 2025 6:03:30 PM
Following the news the Cllr Phil Broadhead is likely to be leaving BCP Council and moving abroad with his family… we have been asked several times today about whether the BCP And Dorset Motorists Group would be putting forward a Candidate for his ward of Branksome and Talbot Woods should a council by election take place.
I am sure that my colleagues on the Motorists Steering Group would agree with me when I say certainly not in this case. For two reasons, Firstly I am sure the local Conservative Party will find or already have a strong candidate. Secondly, as a group we have no interest in putting up candidates against political parties who share and support Motorists interests. As we have seen from their leaflet published TW, we share common ground with them on many motorist issues.
I and other members of the SG have recently been approached on several occasions by two different political parties to ask if we would be prepared to stand as Town or BCP Council candidates.
Our position remains unchanged. As a group we will support any political party of any colour that supports and protects the interests of Motorists, the elderly and the less mobile. As it stands it does not take a genius to work out that currently, that it is very unlikely that will be the car hating Liberal Democrat’s, The Poole People or The Green Party.
From a practical, organisational and funding POV it will clearly be much better for our Motorists group to get behind a support an appropriate manifesto from an existing political party. Hopefully one that delivers on the commitments we seek rather than any of us stand as isolated Motorists Candidates.
That said we might need to!! And if so we will. In several specially selected wards. It is an option we have under active and ongoing consideration.
Not with any real hope of actually winning any Council Seats ( because of our limited group numbers ) but with a real prospect of being disruptors to the administration incumbents.
Some BCP Administration Cllr’s have majorities of less than 200… incl the current Council Leader. A Motorist candidate standing receiving even as few as 100 votes in our chosen wards could make a big difference and see the end of some of the Car Hating 3 Town Alliance Councillors.
And to be clear the BCP Council Wards we would consider targeting with our Motorist candidates if we needed to are…In priority order:
Newton and Heathlands
Alderney and Bourne Valley
Poole Town
Wallisdown and Winton west
Broadstone
Creekmoor( We would work in partnership and not oppose the very successful current independent ward Cllr)
Bearwood and Merley
Oakdale
You can look up the current councillors for these wards on the BCP Council website. These reason for us selecting these will become obvious!!
It’s all going to be about May 2027. We currently have nearly 2000 FB Group Members by then we hope to have nearer 5000. We do need your help sharing our message and encouraging people to join in what we are trying to do.
We must end this shambolic, chaotic, deaf and arrogant BCP Council Administration. Thanks for reading!
Cheers Steve

Steve Moody highlights BCP Councillors awarding themselves a 20% Pay rise before their summer recess.

Update on Cllr Earl and the 20% Pay award to BCP Councillors:
From her:
Steve Moody Are the Labour Party going to justify taking it despite not voting for it? Could really do with it to pay for the increase in NICs along with every other organisation and business that's been screwed over by this government.
From me:
Councillor Millie Earl Err?? 20% pay award to BCP Councillors is going to pay for NIC’s?? And since you put it so elegantly… BCP Residents are fed up with being “ screwed over” by your Administration. We are all looking forward to the results of the TC Consultation and to see if Residents buy into the latest Lib Dem Tax Grab!
I was hoping for an explanation from Cllr Earl why the 3TA and Green Cllr’s who all voted for this massive pay award to themselves need it to pay NICs??? Cllr Earl responded with a laughing emoji.
Enough said.

Steve Moody writes to follow up on BCP & Dorset Motorists Petition regarding LTP4 Transport Policy

Posted by BCP Dorset Motorists on Aug 10, 2025 5:16:33 PM
RE: Our BCP and Dorset Motorists Group petition which was referrred by BCP Council to the LTP4 working group.
We have recently received a very helpful update from Cllr Michelle Dower ( Covered in a seperate post) on this process .
However, I have just sent this to Cllrs Andy Hadley and Kate Salmon. As AH is the chair of the WG and KS was the member who proposed the motion. I feel it is only right we recieve a response from them on the following. We are determined to hold them to account and not just be brushed off.
“Dear Cllr’s Hadley and Salmon,
I am contacting you on behalf of our 1900 group members in connection our recent change.org petition which BCP council voted to move to the LTP4 working group for consideration. Please see below.
“ RESOLVED that the petition be referred to the LTP4 working group, in accordance with article 13.22.9 of the constitution, for it to be considered by that body as a piece of evidence to be fed into the continued development of LTP4”
This week we have again received a very helpful and supportive update on the process from Cllr Michelle Dower which we very much appreciate.
However, our members regard the matter of how our petition was considered and debated during the process of developing the LTP4 plans as matter of public interest and that as such the working group have an obligation to explain in detail the following aspects.
1) How was our petition “referred” and how was our document circulated? ( written or verbally ) Was our petition formally included on any WG agenda?
2) If our petition was considered , what process did that involve? Was it on a one off or ongoing basis ? And how has it shaped any of the fundamental proposals that are going to be put forward for public consultation later this year?
It is very important that we can prove to our members and the 3281 people who signed the petition that it was taken seriously by the LTP4 WG and not just buried in the long grass.
I look forward to receiving clarification from you on the above points as your earliest connivence.
Thank you”

BCP & Dorset Motorists Group Membership Drive

Posted by BCP Dorset Motorists on Jul 27, 2025 4:20:19 PM
A little more focus on membership, as we reach a wider audience our numbers continue to grow more and more local people are flocking to us as they become disillusioned with both BCP and Dorset Councils Anti Motorist agenda. This has enabled us to attain 1800 members as of 10t July.

BCP Parking Permit for Residents Battle

Posted by BCP Dorset Motorists on Jul 27, 2025 4:15:45 PM
BCP leader was swift to U Turn on her fatally flawed idea of introducing permits for residents parking outside their own homes due to immense pressure from our group and others. There is also a cloud over the unusual way in which this policy seemed to suddenly just appear without proper oversight.

Victory for Common Sense – Thanks to You!
We’re proud to announce that our part in the campaign has helped to successfully halt the council’s unfair parking permit scheme. This is a win for local motorists and a reminder that when we stand together, we can make a difference.

To the council: This is a clear message – you must start listening to the people. Voters deserve a say in all policies, not just the ones you find convenient. Stop trying to push through changes without proper consultation and support.

New Town Councils

Posted by BCP Dorset Motorists on May 2, 2025 4:05:23 PM
You may be aware that BCP are proposing the establishment of Town and Parish councils throughout the BCP area.  I have engaged with a couple of councillors on this issue and it is the subject of one of the council’s infamous consultation processes, ‘Have Your Say’.  https://haveyoursay.bcpcouncil.gov.uk/cgr-consultation
A word of warning when completing this consultation the council tell me that they cannot take into account additional cost as a reason to oppose this.  So if you only mention costs on your consultation response it may be ignored, you must add more, perhaps bureaucracy or unnecessary additional staff or just object.

You may also be interested to see the various parish and town precepts in Dorset.  Worth looking at those close to BCP.  https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/parish-council-tax-charges-april-2025-to-march-2026#C

Corfe Mullen Band D  £152
Lytchett Minster and Upton  and Upton Band D £159

You will rightly ask what has that got to do with motorists?  Hopefully nothing, but I remain suspicious regarding this council.  These new councils will get their funds from a precept (an extra charge on your council tax).  We don’t know what the precept will be. The reason is that until these are formed we don’t know what additional services they will provide, that will be up to the new town councillors.  So we the people are being asked to pay for new unknown services with a new unknown cost.  Only in Local Government this makes sense, the councillors assure me this is mandated by Central Government.  They show the additional likely precepts on the consultation page, but they seem low to me.  The average in England is £85.  Link to Dorset’s is above.

It occurs to me that the council tell me that they have managed to get Central Government funding for all their Active Travel programme, running to over £90m for BCP and a further £2.3B for England.  They even employ two additional full time members of staff who work on Active Travel.  Given that Central Government has run out of our money it is quite likely that this funding will dry up, but the new precept could be used to fill the gap to create new, largely unused, cycling infrastructure that impedes motor traffic during it construction.

In short you are being asked to pay an additional amount to provide new unknown services, which may or may not include Active Travel. I have asked what the extra money will be used for but BCP don’t know, that’s down to the new councils.

If the BCP approve this proposal then your council tax will go up, how much by, we don’t know, to pay for what, we don’t know that either.

Council can’t get their own figures straight!

Posted by BCP Dorset Motorists on Apr 24, 2025 11:25:51 AM

Recently we saw a newspaper article, following a Freedom of Information request regarding the Active Travel spending by BCP.  However the numbers I was sent following a Freedom of Information request are completely different.  The newspaper quote £18.9m whilst the FOI response I got showed that £70 million has been spent.  I am confident that the newspaper is quote the figures they got, but why are council publishing different figures to different people?

If they can’t get figures like right or even the same what hope have we got for getting the truth from the Council.

This is an extract from my FOI

1.      How much money had BCP spent in total in the last 5 years on Active Travel Projects (any projects that deliver cycle lanes, for example Ringwood Rd), please include the all the relevant salaries and staff costs for those involved in bidding and delivering these projects.  ANSWER
£70,062,362 Note this includes approx. £14m TCF grant allocated to Dorset Council

2.      How much money has been received from Central Government, directly and indirectly over the same period to directly deliver these projects. ANSWER
£90,568,849 Note this includes approx. £14m TCF grant allocated to Dorset Council

Wheels in motion for collaborative Local Transport Plan

Posted by BCP Dorset Motorists on Apr 1, 2025 2:17:02 PM
From a BCP Council regular update: it’s a 1 min read. The important thing they are currently consult ing with local businesses on the next Local Transport Plan. ( LTP 4)

Then BCP Council are going to widen the consultation to BCP Residents so they can give their views. When the time comes we need to be ready to tell them exactly what we think!!!

I know people will say… What’s the point? The 3 Towns Alliance just ignore consultations and do what they want anyway. Well unfortunately recent history shows that to be true but  such Apathy will be our biggest enemy in this. Just like it is usually inLocal Council Elections.

We cannot just allow BCP Council to think it is ok to  continue to ignore consultation views.

We cannot allow the Three Towns Alliance to think it is ok to continue to ignore the interests of Motorists in favour of their own personal ideologies.

We need to hold them to democratic account. If they continue not to listen they risk a major rejection by residents at the next  BCP council elections in May 2027. Watch out for this consultation!
